Ofer Bymel & Gregory Büttner 'Ripsnorter' - Collaboration of Israel drummer and experimentalist Ofer Bymel with German sound artist Gregory Büttner. The album contains two long improvisations, the first recorded in Gastatelier Fleetinsel (where Ofer got an artist residency for one month) and the second recorded live at "Blurred Edges" Festival in 2010 in Hamburg. There with Ofer breathes through his instrument and handles it with a lot of extended techniques; Gregory plays his sounds using a laptop through small loudspeakers which he prepares or plays with resonating objects. As a result the record gives an impression of a perfect melting of acoustic and electronic sounds.
Gregory Büttner lives and works as a musician and artist in Hamburg. Since 2000 his main focus is on sound art and electroacoustic compositions. He performed at several festivals and concert series in Europe and Asia, composed music for dance and performance, radio, video and sound installations. In 2004 he launched his label 1000füssler which releases experimental music in small editions. He plays regularly in a duo with Birgit Ulher, ‘Stark Bewölkt Quartett‘ with Michael Maierhof, Heiner Metzger, Birgit Ulher, or as ‘für diesen abend‘ with Stefan Funck and Katrin Bethge. He also collaborated with musicians Rhodri Davies, Ofer Bymel, Chris Heenan, the artist Anja Winterhalter, Stefanie Becker, Magdalena Sadziak, among others. His music released by labels like 1000füssler, Firework Edition Records, Anthropometrics / Aufabwegen, Grünrekorder, Compost and Height.
Ofer Bymel born in 1984 in Jerusalem, studied piano and drums from an early age. In 2008 graduated from the Academy of Music and Dance Jerusalem in the field of composition. A leading Israeli drummer and improviser, Bymel has played with an extensive amount of musicians from Israel and abroad. Using his immense musicality combined with a vast palette of sounds and techniques, he is capable of playing an impressive range of effects: from the extremely soft and delicately inaudible to the harsh and explosive. Bymel has also led, and took part in many Improvised Music and Free-Jazz groups in Israel, as well as recently in Europe.
