On \u201cTidal\u201d<\/strong>
\nTidal zone is a fluid line between land and sea, a site of perpetual motion
\nand metamorphoses.
\nDuring 2008 – 2010 I collected a variety of sounds in coastal areas of
\nWestern and Southern Ireland and on the other side of Atlantic Ocean in
\nNewfoundland, Canada: the remote fishing village of Conche, the ghost
\nsettlement of Crouse, and the St.Georges peninsula. I recorded underwater:
\ncrackles of decapods, dolphins, mink-whales, a breaking iceberg, a sea-otter
\nfishing in the harbor.\u00a0 And on land: a wooden church crackling in the wind,
\nengines of boats, pebble-surf, sea-gulls \u2026
\nAll sounds and individual sequences used in the composition were recorded
\nas-it-is. There is no other transformation than editing and mixing. Though
\nsounds are organized in groups by the location of recordings, there is no
\nintention to re-create an acoustic representation of the location itself.
\nSounds are chosen solely by morphologic associations and treated as
\nabstractions. Recorded and composed by Slavek Kwi in July 2010 (1,2) and
\nApril\/May 2011 (3,4) in Tentacles-Of-Perception Studio, Ireland.<\/p>\n

Biography Artificial Memory Trace \/ Slavek Kwi<\/strong>
\nSlavek Kwi is a sound-artist, composer and researcher inter\u00adested in the
\nphenomena of perception as the fundamental determinant of relations with
\nreality. He has a longstanding fascination with sound-environments,
\ndeveloping what he terms \u2018electro-acoustic sound-paintings\u2019 that oscillate
\nbetween sound only works and interdisciplinary works exploring social,
\nspatial and temporal processes. These complex audio-based situa\u00adtions are
\ncreated mainly from site specific recordings, resulting in subjective
\nreports for radio broadcast, \u2018cinema for ears\u2019 for multi-channel playback,
\nsound installations integrated into the environment and performances. From
\nthe early nineties Slavek has operated under the name Artificial Memory
\nTrace.
\nCollaboration piece realised with Eric La Casa \u201cVibratility.Mozaik\u201d received
\nPrize of the Electroacoustic Sonic Art Category in the 29th International
\nCompetition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art, Bourges 2002 in France.
\nHe facilitates experimental sound workshops with autistic children and those
\nwith learning disabilities. The workshop technique emphasises extensive
\nlistening and the stimulation of creativ\u00adity through observation and the
\nsupport of natural tendencies. Slavek was born in former Czechoslovakia,
\nlived 14 years in Belgium and has been based in Ireland since 2000.
