DEGEM CD 24: HOEREN – in dieser Zeit


Listen, not listen, listen to, listen in, hear, eavesdrop, turn a deaf ear, interrogate. This CD focusses on the initial moment of composition in the artist’s current auditory perception. Composers, sound artists and sound enthusiasts began by resonating themselves. Thus chosen by the sound, they began to compose, either captivated or repelled by what they heard. And sometimes they themselves did not know why they were listening to it. Frequencies, moods, noises, atmospheres, situations, spaces, hand actions, quotations, singing audience choirs. Then all of this drives further, rubbed, shaken, kneaded, hidden in the composer’s : own time : the time in which one currently finds oneself : and has never dealt with before. Doing something that these sounds compel them to do or demand of them. The expected diversity as well as the seamless folding of the compositions – without pauses in between, whereby the consecutive pieces clearly relate to each other without reflecting each other’s essence – allow the CD itself to mutate into a media object. It provokes open-ended in-between/listening/fore/spaces that can only be activated by each listener alone.
The compilation includes electroacoustic pieces by Miri Berlin, Frank Niehusmann, Marcus Beuter, Denise Ritter, Gerald Eckert, Clemens von Reusner, Tim Helbig, Harald Muenz, Jakob Rieke and Antje Vowinckel.
